THE MUSE

Elijah is, on the surface, rigidly polite and formal. However, they intensely distrust authority figures and their peers, and are prone to small, barbed comments in the sake of self defense. At their best, these traits result in a sense of literal conversational stiffness; at worst, they turn Elijah into a needlessly cruel individual, scaring away kindness before they can be offered it. They've spent most of their time in Xara Cosmia giving others the benefit of doubt—assessing differences in culture with curious fixation—but have still managed fumble their way into insulting others.

She is awkward to talk to at times, often ignorant to social cues and slang. Though she tries to avoid outright offending or upsetting others without reason, Elijah is very blunt and open about her thoughts and feelings during conversations, and this can have its own consequences.

Elijah is an inherently “lonely” person in the sense that he has spent the majority of his life essentially alone. This has fed into his distrust and bitterness; while he is starved for social interaction, he rarely trusts other’s intentions, and is desperate to reject them before they can reject him. He's grown fond of certain people during his time in the Cosmias, but it's a house of cards. If one falls out of place, he'll destroy the rest in fear of being hurt again.

As the most recent quick event has now ended, Elijah has regained his memories of his mother, and, along with it, an even stronger dislike of himself and a sense of embarrassment for his (mildly altered) behavior during the past week.

Right now, Elijah feels that many of his (disordered and unhealthy) core beliefs have been validated. From his perspective, the people he cares about either liked him less during the period of time that he was behaving more like Klaus or seemingly did not care about him—shown by the few people who checked on him after his death. He feels that he's been right in interpreting his relationships as something less than friendship; similarly, his belief that he is innately worth less than other people is reinforced.

He's currently ignoring the fact that he died as much as he can by throwing himself into projects: baking, cooking, and mechanical. He misses his mother more than he has in years, with the sudden, forced memory of her, and he's ignoring that too. To the few people that did check on him, he'll be even more... Elijah, in the sense that he's attempting to make up for being himself. He's being especially attentive.
